Death Toll Rises to Over 1,900 in Turkey and Syria Earthquakes

 Turkey and Syria hit by Devastating Earthquakes, Death Toll Surges to Over 1,900

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed that 1,121 individuals have lost their lives and 5,385 have been injured in Turkey, while over 700 are feared dead in Syria as rescue operations continue. The earthquakes, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck Turkey and were felt in several nearby provinces, causing buildings to collapse.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was located around 20 miles (33 km) from Gaziantep and 16 miles (26 km) from Nurdagi, at a depth of 11 miles (18 km). The Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management agency was based in the town of Pazarcik in the Kahramanmaras province. The European Union has dispatched rescue teams and is preparing further assistance for Turkey. Teams from the Netherlands and Romania have already been deployed and the EU's Emergency Response Coordination Centre is overseeing their efforts. Commissioner Janez Lenarcic tweeted that the EU is committed to providing aid to Turkey during this difficult time.
