Turkey and Syria hit by Devastating Earthquakes, Death Toll Surges to Over 1,900
A Powerful 7.9 Magnitude Quake Rocks Turkey and Syria, 360 confirmed Dead
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was located around 20 miles (33 km) from Gaziantep and 16 miles (26 km) from Nurdagi, at a depth of 11 miles (18 km). The Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management agency was based in the town of Pazarcik in the Kahramanmaras province. The European Union has dispatched rescue teams and is preparing further assistance for Turkey. Teams from the Netherlands and Romania have already been deployed and the EU's Emergency Response Coordination Centre is overseeing their efforts. Commissioner Janez Lenarcic tweeted that the EU is committed to providing aid to Turkey during this difficult time.
