Police: Harford man arrested after shooting toward officers while barricading himself in the woods in Middle River

A Harford County man is charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder after he fired multiple rounds at police Tuesday night in Middle River while barricading himself in the woods.

Edmund Claves Cochran Jr., 43, of Aberdeen, also faces several weapons charges related to the incident in Baltimore County, according to online court records.

Aberdeen Police said they had initially been called to Cochran’s residence on Church Green Road around noon Tuesday for a report of a domestic assault. Cochran fled the scene before police arrived.

After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Aberdeen officers found Cochran in his car on Church Green Road around 3 p.m. He again fled police, officials said, who initially pursued him along Route 40.

Officers abandoned the pursuit, police said, after Cochran allegedly began driving erratically, in order to protect the safety of other drivers.

Investigators received information later in the evening that Cochran was near Wilson Point Road in Middle River, Aberdeen police said, and notified the Baltimore County Police Department.

Baltimore County Police said officers were called around 5 p.m. Tuesday to help the Aberdeen with an investigation in the 900 block of Beech Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a Cochran sitting in his car. As officers approached, police said, Cochran left his car then “barricaded himself in the nearby woods.” He then fired a gun at a county police tactical car.

Police said Cochran surrendered and was taken into custody.

Online court records did not list an attorney for Cochran as of 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Charges related to the domestic incident in Harford County also had not been filed as of Wednesday morning.

The victim of the assault was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital and was in stable condition, Aberdeen police said.
